”PRESENCE”

Oil on canvas / 146 x 97cm (57 x 38 inches)

What does it mean to be “present”?

I read something very poignant as expressed by the venerable sage ~Thich Nhat Hanh - “We are very good at preparing to live, but not very good at living. We know how to sacrifice ten years for a diploma, and we are willing to work very hard to get a job, a car, a house, and so on. But we have difficulty remembering that we are alive in the present moment, the only moment there is for us to be alive”

No matter which nationality, creed or continent you call home, we as humans can all agree - we seek out places to rejuvenate and rest in nature-filled places. Why do we do this? My thoughts and personal experience is that our Spirit knows where to go to access that power of PRESENCE. In practical terms - presence is a recalibration of your entire Being - body, mind and spirit, so that all comes into balance and harmony.

Every cell of your body is breathing - not just your lungs. All of your thoughts that run through your mind are no longer just busy clutter - but an emptiness of “peace that surpasses all understanding”. As much as we are in love with another, ultimately we are the solo experiencer of our own mind. This in turn creates our own reality - in a very real and tangible way. As when we are in harmony within, our external world automatically shifts to come into balance and communication with that, and all those who come into contact with you subliminally and subconsciously feel that PRESENCE and harmony.

Within this work, my intention is to offer the viewer immediate access to that state of mind of calm and ancient PRESENCE - just like trees - formidable, stable, calm, reassuring presence - that is what we feel around a forest of trees
