”mother INVOCATION”

This piece was borne during a very sad time for me. I was based in New Zealand and had just lost my mother who’s home is in Cape Town. During this period of immense pain, I was guided, to what I now believe, divinely to create this immense flowerscape.
My technique of heavy texture is something that I have not learned from another artist or teacher and really came into its own during the creation of this piece.
My soul took my deep loss and pain and somehow transmuted that energy into creating something which I wished to convey to the viewer a sense of awe and calm.
Once complete, this piece weighed in the region of 18kg. It was FULL of oil paint!
